Many people in Hong Kong stock up on masks as the seasons change and before the flu peak. Japanese masks are known for soft ear loops and a close fit, and Amazon Japan has a wider choice of large boxes, so every year plenty of our readers buy straight from Japanese online shops.

All six of these are popular picks from Amazon Japan’s best-seller list, covering pleated, 3D, coloured and individually wrapped styles. If you want made in Japan, there are Unicharm Chokaiteki, the IRIS Nano Air Mask and LEC Sawayaka Fit. For a slimmer-looking fit that is less likely to smudge make-up, try iSDG’s 3D mask and Hakugen be-style. For the lowest price per mask to stock up, there is Fitty 7DAYS.

There are two ways to buy: order on Amazon Japan yourself and ship to the Buy&Ship Japan warehouse for forwarding to Hong Kong, or give Buy&Ship the product link and we will proxy shop it for you.

How do Japanese masks get to Hong Kong? Two ways: Japan warehouse forwarding or proxy shopping

Some Amazon Japan items can be delivered straight to Hong Kong, but international shipping is charged per order, and it only covers Amazon’s own items. Many readers buying masks also pick up skincare, snacks or household items from other Japanese online shops, and many of those shops only accept addresses in Japan.

With the Buy&Ship Japan warehouse, you enter our warehouse as the delivery address at checkout. Parcels from different shops can be consolidated into one box when they arrive and shipped to Hong Kong, charged by actual weight. Amazon Japan has English and Chinese interfaces and accepts Hong Kong credit cards, so ordering yourself is straightforward.

If you do not have an Amazon Japan account, or would rather not handle payment yourself, choose proxy shopping: paste the product link on the Buy&Ship proxy shopping page and we place and pay for the order, with the bill settled in Hong Kong dollars. For a side-by-side comparison, see Proxy shopping or forwarding? below.

How to choose a Japanese mask in 2026: 3D colour masks and made-in-Japan big boxes

Amazon Japan’s mask best-seller list this October shows two kinds of product near the top. The first is 3D coloured masks, such as the iSDG SPUN MASK at number one, with a fabric-like feel and a cut that flatters the face. The second is large boxes of white pleated masks from Fitty, IRIS and Unicharm, with comfortable ear loops, good breathability and a low price per mask, suited to a whole family’s everyday use.

iSDG SPUN MASK 3D colour mask, colour range

Three things are worth checking: whether the box says 日本製 (made in Japan), since many Japanese brands make their masks abroad; whether it is marked as meeting JIS T 9001, Japan’s mask performance standard (grades explained below); and whether it is 個包装, meaning each mask is individually wrapped, which is handy for carrying in a bag.

How are Japanese masks graded? Reading the JIS T 9001 label

Japan set its national mask standard, JIS T 9001, in June 2021. It divides masks into two main types: 医療用 (medical) and 一般用 (general use). A box printed with “JIS T 9001” and a conformity number (規格適合番号, for example G42107004) has passed the relevant performance requirements. The conformity number is issued by the Japan Hygiene Products Industry Association (JIS T 9001 performance requirements).

Label on the boxUseMain requirements
JIS T 9001 一般用マスク (general use)Everyday useEach function the product claims must reach 95% or more: particles (PFE), bacterial droplets (BFE), viral droplets (VFE) and pollen. There are also breathability (pressure drop) and safety requirements such as formaldehyde and fluorescence
JIS T 9001 医療用 Class I (medical)Medical usePFE, BFE and VFE each ≥95%, and must pass a synthetic blood penetration test
JIS T 9001 医療用 Class II / III (medical)Medical usePFE, BFE and VFE each ≥98%; Class III has the highest blood penetration resistance
JIS T 9002 感染対策医療用マスク (infection control)Infection control for healthcare workersType I and Type II; Japanese local governments list it as an equivalent to US N95 in procurement
国家検定 DS1 / DS2 / DS3Industrial dust protectionParticle collection efficiency ≥80%, ≥95% and ≥99.9% respectively

Of the masks in this article, Unicharm Chokaiteki, the IRIS Nano Air Mask, Hakugen be-style and LEC Sawayaka Fit all show JIS T 9001 on the box or product page, and the Chokaiteki and IRIS boxes state that they are 一般用マスク (general use).

Many Japanese mask boxes say 99%カット (99% blocked). That is a test figure from testing the maker commissioned, and it is separate from the JIS pass marks of 95% or 98%. To compare masks, the JIS label and conformity number are the clearer guide.

Mask standards in Hong Kong, mainland China, Korea and the US

RegionCommon standardsGrades and main requirements
Hong KongMasks on sale mostly carry the US ASTM F2100, European EN 14683 or Taiwan CNS 14774 standards, which the Consumer Council also uses as buying referencesASTM F2100: Level 1 bacterial and sub-micron particle filtration ≥95%; Levels 2 and 3 ≥98%, with Level 3 the most fluid-resistant. EN 14683: Type I bacterial filtration ≥95%, Type II ≥98%; an “R” marks fluid resistance
Mainland ChinaGB/T 32610 (daily protective masks), YY/T 0969 (single-use medical masks), YY 0469 (medical surgical masks), GB 19083 (medical protective masks), GB 2626 (KN90 / KN95 / KN100)Medical surgical masks: bacterial filtration ≥95%. Medical protective masks: grades 1, 2 and 3 by non-oily particle filtration (≥95%, ≥99%, ≥99.97%). KN95: salt particle filtration ≥95%
KoreaKF grades from the Ministry of Food and Drug SafetyKF80: ≥80% filtration of particles averaging 0.6 microns. KF94 and KF99: ≥94% and ≥99% of particles averaging 0.4 microns
United StatesNIOSH-approved respirators (N95 and others); medical masks use ASTM F2100N95 / N99 / N100: tested with the most penetrating particles of about 0.3 microns, filtration ≥95% / ≥99% / ≥99.97%, and must seal to the face. For ASTM grades, see the Hong Kong row

Each standard uses different test particles and methods, and not all require a seal to the face, so the numbers cannot be compared directly. N95 and KN95, for example, are tight-fitting respirators, while ASTM, JIS general-use and medical surgical masks are worn loosely. Real-world protection also depends on how well the mask fits. If you are choosing a mask because of an outbreak, follow the advice of the Centre for Health Protection.

Best Japanese masks 2026: 6 picks from the best-seller list

All six come from Amazon Japan’s disposable mask (使い捨てマスク) best-seller list; ranks and prices are as checked on 8 October 2026. We picked them from the top 30 to cover different needs, such as made in Japan, 3D colour styles and children’s sizes, and left out Amazon’s own brands.

Unicharm Chokaiteki mask Gokujo Mimigokochi, 50 masks, made in Japan

1. Unicharm Chokaiteki (超快適) Mask, Gokujo Mimigokochi (極上耳ごこち) — made in Japan, 50 masks

A popular pick that sold more than a thousand units on Amazon Japan in the past week. The Gokujo Mimigokochi version has wider ゆったりフィット ear loops, so it is less likely to dig in behind the ears over long hours, and the filter layer includes silk for a softer feel. The box shows made in Japan and JIS T 9001. Pleated, regular size. Ranked 17th on 8 October.

Price in Japan: ¥1,862 (about HK$92)

IRIS OHYAMA Nano Air Mask, 50 masks, made in Japan

2. IRIS OHYAMA Nano Air Mask (ナノエアーマスク) — made in Japan, 50 masks

Made in IRIS OHYAMA’s own factory in Japan. The middle layer uses a nanofibre filter, which the maker says reduces stuffiness around the mouth. A 3D support strip in the centre keeps the mask off the lips, V-shaped sides reduce gaps at the cheeks, and the ear loops are wider. Meets JIS T 9001. Pleated, regular size. Also made in Japan, but cheaper per mask than Chokaiteki, so it suits bulk buying. Ranked 22nd on 8 October.

Price in Japan: ¥1,196 (about HK$59)

iSDG SPUN MASK 3D spunlace non-woven colour mask, 30 masks, individually wrapped

3. iSDG SPUN MASK 3D colour mask — 30 masks, individually wrapped

Number one on Amazon Japan’s mask best-seller list on 8 October. Made from spunlace (スパンレース) non-woven fabric with a fabric-like sheen and texture, it has a 3D cut that follows the jawline, comes in many colours, and each mask is individually wrapped. It is a Japanese brand made in China; if made in Japan matters to you, choose pick 1, 2 or 6.

Price in Japan: from ¥591 (about HK$29, depending on colour)

Hakugen Earth be-style 3D mask Premium White, 20 masks

4. Hakugen Earth be-style 3D mask, Premium White (プレミアムホワイト) — 20 masks

A popular 3D mask line from Hakugen Earth, designed to make the face look smaller (小顔に魅せるフィット感). The nose area has a rounded cut and the chin area is narrower for a neater outline, and the inner layer resists make-up transfer, so it suits people who wear make-up. Meets JIS T 9001. Wider ear loops, regular size. Ranked 11th on 8 October.

Price in Japan: ¥810 (about HK$40)

Tamagawa Eizai Fitty 7DAYS Mask EX Plus, 60 masks

5. Fitty 7DAYS Mask EX Plus (マスク EX プラス) — 60 masks

A long-running product from Tamagawa Eizai, an established Japanese mask maker, ranked 2nd on 8 October. Three layers, a nose wire and soft, wide ふわふわゴム ear loops. The 60-pack has the lowest price per mask of the six, which suits everyday family use. Note that the masks are not individually wrapped but come in a sealed 衛生パック pack, and they are not made in Japan; check the box for the country of origin.

Price in Japan: ¥679 (about HK$34)

LEC Sawayaka Fit made-in-Japan mask, 60 masks, individually wrapped

6. LEC Sawayaka Fit (さわやかフィット) — made in Japan, 60 masks, individually wrapped

LEC is a Japanese household goods brand. This mask is made in Japan, meets JIS T 9001, is individually wrapped and has wider ear loops. Ranked 8th on 8 October. The same product page offers a children’s size (12.5 × 9 cm, labelled for ages 4 to 9), so you can buy for adults and children in one go, which makes it the most family-friendly of the six.

Price in Japan: ¥891 (about HK$44, regular size, 60 masks)

Prices and ranks were checked on Amazon Japan’s mask best-seller list on 8 October 2026. Hong Kong dollar amounts use ¥1 ≈ HK$0.0496 (XE, 8 October 2026) and do not include Japanese domestic shipping or Buy&Ship shipping. Amazon Japan prices change daily and vary by colour and size, so check the product page.

How much does it cost to ship 3 boxes of Japanese masks to Hong Kong? About HK$240

Take one box each of Chokaiteki (50 masks), the IRIS Nano Air Mask (50 masks) and be-style (20 masks), all sold by Amazon.co.jp, for ¥3,868 in total. Masks are light, and we estimate the three boxes at about 2 lb. Forwarded to Hong Kong and collected at the Buy&Ship Lai Chi Kok Pickup Point, the total comes to:

ItemCost
Products (3 boxes)¥3,868 (about HK$192)
Amazon Japan domestic shipping¥0 (items shipped by Amazon are usually free over ¥3,500 per order)
Buy&Ship shipping (Lai Chi Kok Pickup Point, about 2 lb × HK$24)HK$48
TotalAbout HK$240
Weight is an estimate; the final shipping fee is based on the parcel’s actual weight when it reaches the warehouse. Check Amazon Japan’s free-shipping threshold at checkout. With proxy shopping, a proxy service fee also applies and is shown on the order page.

Shipping from the Japan warehouse to Hong Kong is charged by actual weight: HK$24/lb at the Lai Chi Kok Pickup Point, HK$27/lb at other Buy&Ship Pickup Points, HK$32/lb at S.F. and Cainiao pick-up points, HK$34/lb at HK Post, and HK$32/lb for commercial area delivery (plus HK$20 per order for residential and remote areas). For the latest rates, see the pricing page.

Tip: masks are light, so a single box may not be worth shipping on its own. Send several boxes, along with skincare or household items bought from other Japanese shops around the same time, to the Japan warehouse and consolidate them into one box. Shipping is charged on the total weight, so the cost per item comes down.

Proxy shopping or forwarding? With an Amazon Japan account, forwarding is the most direct

Amazon Japan has English and Chinese interfaces and accepts Hong Kong credit cards, so most readers can order themselves and ship to the Japan warehouse. Proxy shopping suits you if you would rather not register an account or pay in a foreign currency by card, or if the mask you want is only sold on a Japanese-language shop.

Best forReaders unfamiliar with Japanese sites, or who would rather not pay themselvesReaders used to shopping on Japanese sites who want to consolidate parcels from several shops

Shipping is calculated the same way for both, by the actual weight shipped from the Japan warehouse to Hong Kong. The only differences are who places the order and whether a proxy service fee applies.

Before you order

Check the size: ふつう, 小さめ, こども用

Japanese masks usually come in ふつう (regular), 小さめ (small), 大きめ (large) and こども用 (children’s). One product page often has several size and pack-count options, so check you have the right one before adding to cart; the price also changes with the size.

Want made in Japan? Check the box

A Japanese brand does not mean made in Japan. In this article, the Chokaiteki, IRIS Nano Air Mask and LEC Sawayaka Fit boxes are all printed with 日本製 (made in Japan); iSDG is made in China. For other masks, check 原産国 (country of origin) on the product page or the box.

Choose items shipped by Amazon

The same mask may have several sellers on Amazon Japan, each with different prices and domestic shipping. Listings where 出荷元 (shipped by) and 販売元 (sold by) show Amazon.co.jp usually qualify for free shipping more easily; third-party sellers charge their own shipping.

Shipping other Japanese items too? Check the prohibited items list first

If you plan to buy medicine, sprays or other household items along with your masks, check the Buy&Ship Hong Kong prohibited items list first. The Japan warehouse has its own additional restrictions.

Doesn’t Amazon Japan ship to Hong Kong? Why use forwarding?

A: Some items do ship directly. When we checked on 8 October 2026 with Hong Kong set as the delivery address, four of the masks in this article showed international shipping of about US$10 to US$11 for one box. Through the Buy&Ship Japan warehouse, a box of masks weighs about 1 lb, so shipping to the Buy&Ship Lai Chi Kok Pickup Point comes to HK$24, and you can consolidate parcels from Japanese shops other than Amazon in the same shipment.

Are Japanese masks cheaper than in Hong Kong?

A: It depends on the mask and how many you buy. Add shipping to the Japanese price and compare it with the local price; buying several boxes and shipping them together brings the shipping cost per box down.

Are there children’s masks?

A: Yes. Pick 6, LEC Sawayaka Fit, has a こども用 (children’s) size on the same product page (12.5 × 9 cm), labelled for ages 4 to 9. Searching 子供用 マスク on Amazon Japan brings up more options.

Can I ship masks together with items from other Japanese shops?

A: Yes. As long as everything goes to the same Buy&Ship Japan warehouse, you can request consolidation in your account once the parcels arrive, and shipping is charged on the combined weight.
